Detailed Information

As a part of the EVOLVE project, made possible through funding by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, this scheme is designed to support an emerging disabled or neurodivergent musician to develop their practice and take a ‘step up’ in their field. Funding of £3,000 will be available to support one emerging musician over an 8 month period, we will work to adapt the project to meet the successful musician’s needs and goals, but there will be 3 key areas:

  • Mentoring: through pairing with a professional mentor, the musician will begin to explore, extend and develop their practice.
  • Training: through engaging in training courses, events and other professional development opportunities delivered by established artists and organisations, the musician will extend their professional network and learn new skills to enhance their practice
  • Production: having engaged with the mentoring and training, the musician will then plan, develop and present a new piece of work or complete a work in progress. This could include a recording, performance or presentation of a composed piece.

Suitable applicants will be emerging musicians, who are looking for support and guidance, training opportunities and opportunities to develop their work.

Through the application process and structured discussions with Portsmouth Cultural Trust, the successful applicant will identify development needs and areas of focus. This will then be supported by the Trust, who will assist with seeking, and fund, the opportunities over the 8 month period.

The funding will be put towards expenses such as travel for both the musician and any parties involved, access requirements as a part of the project, mentor/trainer fees, event fees, necessary equipment hire e.g. studio space and materials. Capital costs such as equipment will not be funded. The funds, and distribution of funds, shall remain the responsibility of the Trust, who will keep the successful applicant informed about the budget.
