OFF Biennale Cairo (OBC) is a non-profit independent visual arts initiative that attempts to support Egyptian and international contemporary art.
The first activity within this initiative was organizing an international one-month event, starting November 28th, 2015. The event will consisted of art exhibitions and art performances by local as well as international artists that will take place in diverse art and cultural spaces in Cairo.
The OFF Biennale Cairo aims to invite local and international art practitioners to participate in the event with artistic projects or through planned presentations, panel discussions and exhibitions in order to shake the grounds and attract international attention to Egypt as a vibrant art producer within the regional art scene.
The OFF Biennale Cairo is organized by Darb 1718 a contemporary visual arts centre located in the heart of historic old Cairo, founded in 2008. Darb 1718 organises exhibitions, screenings, talks, workshops, concerts and dance performances around the year in addition to its own 2 main projects: Off Biennale Cairo and Mawaweel Music Festival. The centre also hosts programs by local and foreign cultural organizations.
