Selling Artwork: (OLD SYSTEM) Shipping

Setting your shipping can seem daunting.

The important thing is that when a product is sold, you don’t lose money when you come to ship.  To ensure that this is ensured, you can set different amount for shipping to different countries and states.

Firstly Login to your account then follow this route: Login>Vendor Dashboard>Settings>Shipping.

To help illustrate, we have used one of the uploading artists on artmarketdirect as an example.  We will call them Joanne Bloggs.

Joanne is based in Spain.  Most of her customers are from the UK, her native country.

Joanne regularly gets artwork purchased from the US and Canada and sometimes from elsewhere in Europe.

Setting the Default Shipping Cost

Joanne decided that £20 for shipping as a default (mostly to the UK was fair).

After setting her default, Joanne set about making a list of countries and in her case divided destinations as follows:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Western Europe
  • Austria*
  • Belgium*
  • France*
  • Ireland*
  • Italy*
  • Liechtenstein*

This is not about how geographically accurate the list is.  It is a general guide to help Joanne ensure that she has not forgotten anyone.

Different Destinations, Different Costs

Working out how much more different countries would cost to post to.

After making her list, Joanne set about allocating the additional shipping cost to each country and that resulted in a list like this:

Jo is now in a position to set her by country amount which automatically get added to the default shipping cost.

This means that shipping to an address in New York will add £45 to the topline bill to the customer (£20 default and +£25 from the by country shipping list).

To ensure that she does not lose out if someone from further afield buys some work, Jo set Everywhere Else to +£45.

Throughout this process Joanne always saves the page as she goes to ensure everything is updated.
