Celebrated British fine artist Lloyd Hobbard-Mitchell presents this exquisite piece continuing his collaboration with the studio of the late British fine artist Brett Neal. Beagle in Boots (Faith in Black & Gold) is the culmination of works the artist has undertaken in his studio in Thailand, influenced and drawing on the exploration of spirituality and values including morals and virtues. The artist playfully presents these notions on a lighthearted form which can only be described as Pop; a dog wearing shoes. The resulting piece is both fun and beautiful. -

Rotterdam – 23-07-19 In the dead of summer means I am in the midst of the outdoor sketching season. Although I did not complete this one on the spot the invention of the basic composition and planal distribution were done at Katendrecht, Rotterdam. The vista is directed at Hotel New York that nowadays looks almost encapsulated by skycrapers. I was there long ago but the cityscape almost was inrecognizable. The watertaxi was done in my studio because they keep on moving all the time. Nevertheless a new typical sight in swinging Rotterdam. Although, the drawing seems rather detailed, I kept it quite impressionistical. Julia – 02-08-19 Last year I used dancer Julia Gómez Avilés as a model. Next to being a wonderful person for an artist she is ideal because of her flexibility. She can pose in many ways and has lots of stamina. This drawing is not from a live drawing session but based on a picture I saw in her Instagram account. I wanted to do this one because of the extreme pose and the challenge to render her complex body position in a credible way while still adding value to the theme. Summer Playground is a 40x40x1.4 inches large semi abstract oil on canvas of a summer meadow with wildflowers and swallows. I painted it after a walk through fields and farmland between Hartfield and Ashurstwood in Sussex on a very hot July day. There was wheat and barley and corn growing in the fields and at the edges there were a myriad of wildflowers growing. Insects were buzzing and the birds were singling and calling in the trees of the hedgerows and patches of woodland. One particular meadow had swallows flying up and down incredibly fast using the thermals which made them even faster than they usually are. They were not doing it for any obvious reason other than it was fun I think. I am happy at the way the colours on this painting merge and seem to melt together slightly as it is reminiscent of the heat of this day and has captured it well for me. I can hear the birds and the insects, smell the crops and the flowers and remember how happy it makes me feel. England in summer is fleeting and sunny days are a minority so it is good to catch them when they occur which I think I have done. The painting has white edges and is ready to hang. Horse Metamorphosis is a 31.5 x 47x.0.5 inches large contemporary red oil painting of beautiful gold Arabian horse against an abstract bright red background. The golden horse dances in the foreground inside a dark forest with mottled light falling in patches on the path out towards the clearing. The path leads out of the woods and into a glowing summer wildflower meadow. Veils of transparent bright red hang over the scene as the horse begins to emerge from that world into a different one. The painting was started years ago simply to reflect the happiness I get when looking at a beautiful horse but become something more when the red veils were added which gives it a real presence. The original message of the painting was that there is more to life than hiding in the dark. I think now the message is more that there are other realities and that is worth exploring them. Precious Tiger is a 30x30x1.5 inches +oil on canvas of a sinuous orange tiger slinking down a branch in an art nouveau contemporary abstract painting style. She is on a purple tree with lots of intricate branches weaving around her and golden light shines thought the tree behind her. The style is deliberately abstract and the tiger is stylized to make her slightly mystical as she sashays along her tree looking for something in the distance. Tigers are in trouble and may one day be mythical beasts. This one is ahead of the game and I painted her partly for the sheer pleasure all artists get from painting tigers, but also because I was thinking about their plight and wanting to make a space for a tiger to be safe. Hence the fairy tale space and golden light and sense that something is happening here that we don’t fully know about… Dedicated to all those fighting to save our beautiful wildlife. abstract painting -
Emerging is a large 40x40x1.5 inches oil on canvas painting of a stag and doe in an autumn forest in art nouveau, impasto, semi abstract style. A large deer stag stands on the left in the foreground looking imperiously at us as stags do, and a doe stands behind him ready to run. Behind them is a forest of pine and birch trees with thick white light hinted at coming through the trees which halo around the deer To the right is the edge of a forest that is morphing into a curtain. I love the idea of stepping out of forests into other worlds entirely and feel that may be what is happening here. I have deliberately left it ambiguous as to what is occurring and I have abstracted the painting by being very detailed in some parts of it and leaving it alone other parts. This better inspires the imagination. As a child I loved (and still do) fairy stories. There is one here I think… Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang, no frame necessary. Elusive-2 is a 36x48 inches large original oil on canvas of an autumn forest clearing with deer. The painting shows a stag and a doe blinking in and out of existence in a clearing in an autumn forest. The trees lead you into the painting and the deer wait in the misty clearing to transport you elsewhere. Deer are seen as messengers or spirit guides in many cultures and I do find them ethereal and very beautiful. I have no idea how people can shoot them. This painting is another in another in a series of large forest landscape deer paintings that are a tribute to the beautiful landscapes of Sussex, especially around the Ashdown Forest and the elusive deer that inhabit them. Deer have a magical way of appearing and then vanishing in the blink of an eye. It always takes my breath away when I come across them in a forest.
