Description

Raising money to support rhino anti-poaching activities and helping rhinos injured in poaching incidents at the Balule Game Reserve next to the Kruger National Park, South Africa.
World-class artist Martin Jordan (www.martinjordan.co.uk) painted this piece of art reflecting the despicable state of rhino poaching in Southern Africa.

To the majority of collectors the content is unappealing but the painting is meant to shock, disturb and conjure emotion. This art tells a story. And it certainly does not follow the gallery rule book about having to be a safe and comfortable rendition.

Every pound of money raised will go directly to anti-poaching activities and no funds will be allocated to overhead, staff or administration costs. Rhinos are poached for the supposed medical qualities of their horns, but the horns consist of keratin, the same stuff as finger and toe nails.
The painting presents a dilemma, based on actual situations and the message it conveys is accurate:
Slaughtered white rhino cow, down on her front legs but still up on her back legs, her horns butchered from her body, exposing her nasal passages, while still alive, haemorrhaging to death, calf at her side.
Poacher carrying horn
Poacher carrying rifle and machete
Vietnamese businessman, the intermediary, present to photograph the scene on his tablet and pay the poachers; his son at his side, shocked expression and reluctant posture, “Dead as a Dodo” picture on his T-shirt
Vehicle
Circling vultures
Full moon, the “poacher’s friend”, as poachers track by the light of the moon
Dramatic African sky and bush field landscape

This is not a painting likely to hang on the wall in a family lounge but best be seen in the reception area, boardroom or office of the CEO of an environmentally ethical company that believes we should act now or live without wildlife. What would the world be like without wildlife?

Thank you very much for your much anticipated help with a situation I find most distressing, as a veterinary surgeon from South Africa that so much enjoys his work with animals! My hope is that future generations will not be robbed of the experience that comes with seeing rhino in the wild.
The painting currently hangs at VETCall Veterinary Surgery, 113 Station Road, North Chingford, London E4 7BU – please do come and view.
