    Gouda - 30-06-17

     

    A view on the Sint Janskerk from Museum Gouda at Gouda, Zuid-Holand, Netherlands. I noticed the branches of the tree in the front mimicing the direction of the stained glass windows of the church, perfectly matching my theory on singuarity of curved lines not touching straight lines into eternity.

  • Julia – 11-09-18 The third drawing of Julia Gómez Avilés rendered with colour pencils. Last week I bought a great collection of Prismacolour pencils that brought me great joy using them. I used one of the reference pictures I took during the session with Julia last August and employed some styles like impressionism, cubism and realism and combine them. Due to my pointillistic lines that through the process of divisionism create merged colour impressions, I could not use brownish and greyish pigments. The result would otherwise appear to become mud.   • Julia – 02-08-19 Last year I used dancer Julia Gómez Avilés as a model. Next to being a wonderful person for an artist she is ideal because of her flexibility. She can pose in many ways and has lots of stamina. This drawing is not from a live drawing session but based on a picture I saw in her Instagram account. I wanted to do this one because of the extreme pose and the challenge to render her complex body position in a credible way while still adding value to the theme.   • Model - 01-10-17 A rather loose cubistic sketch done with colour pencils. For the 4th time in a row I used the same (indian) model. Her skin allows me to use a lot of yellow which I counterbalanced with edgy purple planes. I kept the focus on the right side and left the part of the legs on the left side open in order to give it that sketchy look.     A work in which I combined colour saturation with complementary colour schemes. Working with my Indian model always is very rewarding. She has a great dark skin complexion showing all kinds of colours dependant on the lighting and I tried to capture the effect of light breaking on her thighs like light fragmentated through a prisma.

  • Rotterdam – 23-07-19 In the dead of summer means I am in the midst of the outdoor sketching season. Although I did not complete this one on the spot the invention of the basic composition and planal distribution were done at Katendrecht, Rotterdam. The vista is directed at Hotel New York that nowadays looks almost encapsulated by skycrapers. I was there long ago but the cityscape almost was inrecognizable. The watertaxi was done in my studio because they keep on moving all the time. Nevertheless a new typical sight in swinging Rotterdam. Although, the drawing seems rather detailed, I kept it quite impressionistical.
